Imaging Services
Imaging services at SOCH feature a distinguished
staff of board-certified radiologists, sophisticated diagnostic imaging
equipment and the Picture Archiving Communication System. Outpatient
imaging services are available at Health Village Imaging, The Women’s
Imaging Center at SOCH and the SOCH Centers for Health in
Little Egg Harbor and Forked River.
SOCH Imaging Services Include
Bone Density (Dexa Scan): Dexa Scan
is a
quick and painless procedure that can detect osteoporosis in its
earliest stages. The Bone Density Scan is performed with a dual
energy x-ray scanner which accurately measures the amount of bone
mass in the spine and hip
Fluoroscopy: Fluoroscopy
allows the radiologist to watch X-ray images “live” on
a TV monitor. Fluoroscopy is often used to observe the digestive
tract (Upper GISeries - Barium Swallow, Lower GI Series - BariumEnema
or “BE”).
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): An
MRI produces high-quality images of the brain, spine, joints and
other organs to determine the severity of patient injuries and
conditions. MRA (Magnetic ResonanceAngiography) is used to visualize
blood flow in arteries and veins in different parts of the body.
Mammography: A
mammogram is a low-dose x-ray of the breast. It can detect a breast
lump nearly two years before it can be felt.
- Screening mammograms evaluate breast health in women with no
symptoms.
- Diagnostic mammograms are used to diagnose breast disease in
women with symptoms of a breast problem; dimpling, or a change
in texture of the skin of the breast; a lump, or discharge from
the nipple.
Nuclear Medicine: This study uses radioisotopes
(radioactive pharmaceuticals) to study all systems of the body.
Emphasis is on the functioning of organ systems, including the
endocrine system, respiratory and cardiac system, digestive system, gall
bladder, skeleton system and central nervous system. Also used
to evaluate sources of infection and to localize tumors in the
body.
PET/CT: PET/CT
offers the very latest technology in cancer diagnosis and care.
It combines the benefits of Positron Emission Tomography (PET),
which can detect changes in cellular structure at the molecular
level, and Computed Tomography (CT), which provides three edimensional
images of bone and soft tissues.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy: During
stereotactic breast biopsy, a specially trained physician relies
on a computerized mammography machine to pinpoint the suspicious
lesion with precision accuracy. Using the imaging technology
to see inside the body, the physician guides a hollow needle through
the skin to obtain a small tissue sample, which is examined by
a pathologist to determine if it is benign or malignant.
Ultrasound: Ultrasound
is used for evaluating the thyroid, pelvic and abdominal organs,
heart and blood vessels and can help determine the source of pain,
swelling or infection in many partsof the body. Ultrasound is also
used during pregnancy to help monitor the growth and development
of the fetus.
X-Ray: The Digital X-ray system produces
images of the skeletal system to detect fracture, arthritis, and
displacement. X-ray is also used to detect various abnormalities
in the chest or lungs.
The Picture Archive Communications System (PACS)
Imaging
Services available at SOCH and satellite locations are clinically
integrated via the PACS system. PACS stores images
digitally, instead of on film, enhancing physicians’ ability
to diagnose disease and injury with speed and accuracy.
